Connections to play
Play has always been a part education. When I went to school, we had recess. During that time, children were allowed to play freely. We played games and it allowed us to socialize. As a result, children developed physically and socially. Today, schools are trying to eliminate recess and play. This will affect student development and the learning process. Play can be creative or exploratory and it can be fun, so children need play to learn; it comes naturally to them.
Hi Debra,
ReplyDeleteI think about recess as the best part of my day in elementary school, because we had 45 minutes to eat and play, while getting to know others. I remember myself sharing my lunch with my classmates, some of which became my friends, and two of them still are my best friends. After lunch, we used to take part of different activities like basketball or soccer games, hide and seek, or we just sat to plan what would we do after school. In addition, it was through recess that I got to meet my husband…. Ah! Now I know why I liked recess that much ;)
I also remember having recess. Although i have never liked being outside, I remember enjoying the free time with my friends. It seems like children today lack an imagination. They don't know how to play or even interact with others. I have noticed that even young children are hooked on electronics such as video games and television. Some of them don't even know how to use simple toys such as balls, jump ropes, and hop scotch squares.
